On Tour
I’ve been on the road with the Fruit Bats lately. Touring is an indescribable jumble of sights and sounds – it all becomes a rich hazy experience that is pretty well represented by a jumble of random images! Here are a few snaps from the road – from the wizard forests of Big Sur to the surf culture of Newport Beach and beyond. More to come!
Five Dresses with Liza Rietz
Talented clothing designer & Portland OR. local, Liza Rietz and I got together recently to shoot some dresses from her Fall / Winter 2010 / 2011 collection. It was such a fun collaboration between our lovely model Amanda, Liza and myself and many thanks to my friend Marisa of Plover Organic for letting us use her beautiful home as our set. I think the natural light and realistic simplicity of our location were perfect compliments to the clothes which carry both a sense of clean structure and soft fluidity all at once. Indeed, Liza says of her new dresses, ” I was challenging myself to focus on the drape of garments for this collection.” Lo and behold these dresses do drape beautifully in unexpected and modern ways while somehow managing to maintain a true streak of traditional femininity. I think the colors are great too, appropriate for whatever mood strikes!

Must Be in a Good Place Now
Remember the pictures of the Huichica Festival in Sonoma County from a couple of posts back? Remember how I went on and on about how magical it was? Well the magic continues with this beautiful video from the blog Yours Truly . This lovely little nugget was filmed that day on the winery & features my sweetie Eric Johnson (Fruit Bats) and our dear friend Andy Cabic of Vetiver sittin’ in a sunbeam in a 100 year old cabin singing the Bobby Charles tune “I Must Be In A Good Place Now”. I love it on so many levels, for the memories it evokes and for seeing these two friends singing together so simply and honestly and just because it’s awesome!

Sidewalk Troubadours
I couldn’t resist posting these pics I came across of my sis and I when we were just knee high to a grasshopper! I remember so vividly strutting around in the sun singing songs and slingin’ pistols with my sis. She’s the tall one and I’m the little sharpshooter! What a couple of whipper snappers..
It even inspired me to write a little poem ..which I hardly ever do! Here goes:
Sidewalk troubadours
Walk
With pearl handle pistols and flip flops
Red felt cowboy hats
And
Pink bikini swagger
Over the hot tar black top
Of suburban LA.
Summertime
Summertime is here bringing first birthdays, gardens, friends and transformations.. juicy sweet life in all it’s complexity shining away under the sun.
BREATHE OWL BREATHE IN DREAM LAND
The sweet folks of the Michigan band Breathe Owl Breathe stopped by on a glorious sunny day to hang out with EJ and I in our garden, drink minty ice water and share some of their magical dream life with us. In this installment of Dream Land we’ve got black whales leaping in the sky at the end of the world, reoccurring grey faced “sky tubes” and the very intriguing “wildcat syndrome” a sort of waking dream state brought on by a concussion. The human mind is a mysterious thing…
Moving in the sequence in which the dreams were told we start with Micah. As I mentioned, it was sunny and we were hangin’ in the garden so be ready to hear some hammering and birds chirping away in the background…ya know…sun shiny ambiance.
LISTEN TO MICAH
and now Trevor…
LISTEN TO TREVOR
and finally Andrea with her waking dreams..the Wildcat Syndrome.
LISTEN TO ANDREA
Afterward Micah shared how he came up with the band name Breathe Owl Breathe.
What a fun day we had together! I’m looking forward too seeing them again, as a band, and now as friends at this year’s Pickathon Festival in Portland, Oregon which is taking place the weekend of August 6th-8th. Also keep your antennae tuned for some new summer and fall releases from these lovely humans!
